NIC Teaming is when you group physical network adapters together of the same speed. So if you have two 1 Gb Ethernet ports on you system you could create a group of these and get a throughput of 2 Gb. The reason you would want to group NICs is to get higher throughput this can be especially helpful when transferring multiple files from one system to another. Each file will be desinated to a NIC and the transfer will happen in parallel.

NIC teaming doesn’t help if you have a single file that is transferred over the network. In this case the file would limited to only one of the physical adapters. The file is not split and sent simultaneously.
